The Singing Hill
The women are returning …
And the chanting is beginning
The humming has begun
With the passing of the seasons
Music from the Singing Hill
Will transcend the voices
Of the dark suits
Shouting their abuse …
And the shouting will be stilled.
The healing of the planet will begin …
from The Singing Hill by Dorothy Cameron (1917-2002)
Will the 47th Parliament move towards fulfilling this prophetic poem 30 years after then-Senator Jo Vallentine spoke it into Hansard?
Jo is travelling from Western Australia to help open our Congress with the wonderful women’s tale of The Singing Hill, a.k.a. Kurrajong or Capital Hill – the site of Parliament House. The tale will be told in story, image and song by storyteller-composer Glenda Cloughley, Canberra visual artist Sally Blake and
A Chorus of Women directed by Johanna McBride. The poet Dorothy Cameron was a mentor and dear friend of both Jo and Glenda. Her lifework of understanding and reclaiming the 30,000-year heritage of European regenerative symbolism is an enduring wellspring of political as well as artistic inspiration for Jo, Glenda, Sally, A Chorus of Women and the Women’s Climate Congress.

A Chorus of Women
A Chorus of Women began with 150 of us singing the lament for the people of Iraq that led the 7.30 Report on 18 March 2003, when Australia went to war. 17 years later, we are still singing up public wisdom. Peace, social justice and effective climate action are the matters of heart in our original songs, major productions and civic conversations.
Chorus will contribute a number of live and recorded songs during the 2 days of the Congress.
